Take Meditation Off the Pedestal

What’s Blocking You from Meditation?

Meditation is a beautiful concept, but in reality it doesn’t always land, especially for those who would benefit the most from it, like moms!

Meditation has been so glorified and put up on such a high pedestal that it can bring up a lot of resistance, intimidation and judgement just by thinking about it.

This might seem a little extreme, but if you struggle with meditation in any way, there could be a limiting or subconscious belief held within you that creates this aversion to something held in such high regard.

The reason I think a lot of moms have resistance or struggle with meditation is because has the appearance of high expectations and standards.

And to be quite frank, we don’t need any more shit in our lives that imposes more expectations and standards that we just aren’t committed to meeting.

I’ve been meditating for about 8 years now. I’ve had battles, ups and downs and, at times a, love/hate relationship with meditation.

And because of my insatiable thirst for knowledge and to gain a deeper understanding of meditation, I completed my 200 hr Meditation Teacher Training in May 2021.

But, like I said, I’ve had my resistance and doubt with meditation…

My mind doesn’t always slow down or turn off.
My body doesn’t always feel comfortable or settled.
I can feel a lot of resistance and distraction, which leads to frustration and irritation, the opposite of what I’m trying to achieve with my practice.

There’s usually a something creating this resistance, not associated with meditation. I call this “thing behind the thing”.

Here are 3 questions or prompts to reflect on to see if there’s any hidden blocks or barriers that are keeping you from allowing your meditative state:

  1. What does meditation mean or represent to you? This would include things that you’ve been taught, things you’ve picked up from other people, any judgements you carry or what you think it’s “supposed” to be.
  2. What do you expect meditation to fulfill or satisfy within you? Notice what comes to mind and especially how it makes you feel in your body.
  3. If no one told you what meditation meant or what it was supposed to “do” for you, how would you like to define or experience it? This is a great one to guess, or imagine, if nothing comes to you right away.

Now, life is busy, it’s full of distractions and interrupts. I know that meditation practice, as a mom, can be ridiculously difficult. This is where I can really support you!

I’m also available for meditation consultations.

These sessions will help you:

  • identify the root of challenges or resistance to a fulfilling meditation practice
  • understand they way you uniquely need to prepare for and/or experience meditation
  • to reframe, redefine or release beliefs or expectations that keep you from deepening your meditation practice
