Full Moon

{Part Five} The Lunar Template Series: The Full Moon Phase

The peak expansion and fulfillment of the moon is during the Full Moon phase.

In relation to your inner and emotional world, this translates as a time of profound illumination, intensity and amplification, specifically your most significant thoughts, feelings or physical sensations.

This means that if you’re mainly stressed, overstimulated or exhausted, or aligned, in the zone and clear-headed, this time of the moon cycle will most likely amplify, intensify and illuminate those things for you.

This phase brings it up to the surface, front and center, to be seen in all it’s fullness.

This, of course, can be quite overwhelming. Even if you’re in alignment and feeling fulfilled, satisfied or purposeful, sometimes there can be too much of a good thing, just like having one to many cups of coffee can make you less productive and just plain jittery.

The most popular practice for the Full Moon is to do release work. But there is something I’ve found to be much more productive and conducive to working with this very full energy…

  1. Focus on moving and expending excess energy. Move your body through exercise, stretching, walking out in nature, or anything that moves your excess energy up and out. If left to simmer, you may be prone to having energy bottle-neck in your head, or mental energy, adding an unnecessary increase to the intensity of this phase.
  2. Be the witness, not the responder. Of course, use your full discernment on this. Sometimes you’ll need to overreact in order to understand the true importance of your experience and expression. It’s just inevitable sometimes. The goal here, though, is to be able to hold space and see your full belief, pattern or theme play out in it’s entirety for two reasons: a) A cycle needs to move through all it’s phases so that it come full circle in order to be complete. Just like the moon, your mental, physical, emotional and spiritual cycles, expansive or limiting, need to be allowed to move through a complete cycle in order to be fulfilled or whole. And,
    b) Witnessing and observing how your belief, pattern or theme plays out in full will help you better understand how to recognize it, work with it, acknowledge it and then either completely absorb and accept it, or release it.
  3. Release when the moon dust settles. Which is to say, when you’ve witnessed what is, when you have a full picture of the pattern at play, there will be a moment when your inner and outer circumstances allow you to make a settled shift. Making changes don’t always require you to push past your comfort zone or to overextend, overstimulate and overwhelm yourself even more than you already are, by doing or saying something from a tense or pressured energy. Yes, there will be times you need to react urgently from that fight/flight/freeze state, but that does not have to be your default state.

The Full Moon is such a power-full phase of the moon cycle, but the more you work with this cycle, I bet you’ll come to know a richer and deeper way to harness and direct this energy that will be just between you and the moon.
