First Quarter Moon

{Part Three} The Lunar Template Series: The First Quarter Phase

There are two important things that the First Quarter phase invites you to look at:

1. Aligned action
2. Habitual busy-ness

    Awareness is key here, especially when it comes to your personal mood, mindset and motivation fluctuations.

    Taking aligned action usually has the “how?” attached to it. What I mean is that when you’re taking action in any area of your life, whether it’s tackling your to-do list, schedule or routine, or working towards your intentions and goals, a lot of the time you’re plagued by how you’re going to get things done.

    How will you get it all done in a certain amount of time?

    How will you know what to do, or the right thing to do first?

    How will you know it’s working or it’s leading you in the right direction?

    If there’s resistance, confusion, uncertainty, instability or lack of trust, what tends to happen is we procrastinate. We put things off. We do more research. We get ourselves ready, again. Or the excuses or reasons why we’re not ready trickle in.

    At this point it’s easier to do what you know to do, to take care of the things that don’t really matter or move you closer to your desired result or outcome.

    Here is where personal awareness and recognition of your fluctuating energy states, or parts of self, becomes important. As you become more aware of how you handle procrastination, resistance or self-doubt, and the “thing behind the thing” (why you’re procrastinating, resisting or doubting), you can work with yourself as you experience this and move forward with your actions intentionally, and in alignment with where you are.

    A quick reframe would be changing “should” into “could”. For example:

    I should be working on needle-moving actions for my business becomes
    I could be working on needle-moving actions for my business.

    I should be doing dishes or laundry becomes
    I could be doing dishes or laundry.

    This can relieve the tension or pressure that comes with uncertainty or moving past a comfort zone. Bracing against the tension or pressure can make you pull back or avoid even stronger, amplifying the resistance or procrastination. At the very least, you can get into the energy of neutrality.

    Neutrality towards action creates flow, which opens up higher solutions, ideas and movement towards the intended outcome.
