EFT for Motherhood

Becoming a mom is kind of a big transition, and the seasons of motherhood keep you transitioning again, and again, and again.

You can only plan, prep and be ready for each season or phase so much.

And, it seems like very little of what’s learned, advised or planned for actually prepares you anyway.

What has felt true for me is you can only really know what to do as you’re moving through the experience, in the moment, in real-time.

So, plan and prep as much as you can, but also, don’t fear the actual experience, learning in the moment on the fly.

Also, trusting your gut goes a long, long, long way. After all, a mother’s intuition is one of her greatest assets.

But this doesn’t always feel like enough to go on, especially in this day and age where information is so readily available, incessant, confusing and distracting.

Enter EFT/Tapping!

EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), aka Tapping, is a stress-management tool that works directly with the nervous system, through tapping on acupressure points and talking about experiences, thoughts, emotions and physical sensations.

What makes EFT so special?

– it’s easily accessible, literally at your fingertips
– there are no side-effects
– it works quickly and effectively, with long-term/permanent results
– you don’t have to understand it, or even really believe in it, in order for it to work

From a more scientific angle, EFT/Tapping works with acupressure points, which is associated with the meridian system. There is recent evidence that the meridian system is an actual physical system in the body, the Primo Vascular System, and not just energetic pathways, as it was once believed.

This sequence of acupressure points signals the parasympathetic nervous system, telling it that you’re safe and it’s safe to process thoughts, emotions, sensations and experiences that may have been protected from you in the past.

So how does this help mothers?

  1. Firstly, and most importantly, Tapping gives a mom an outlet to express herself. If she’s distracted and interrupted for longer periods of time, consistently, it’s easy to let things build up well past breaking points. But let’s face it, as moms, we push through these breaking points, because we have to.
It’s imperative to express thoughts, emotions and physical sensations carried within because they can be an extremely heavy load, on top of the demanding and heavy load of responsibilities in everyday mom-life.
  2. Tapping can meet a mom where she is, helping her process, integrate, release and heal chronic and accumulated limitations from stress, exhaustion, being over-stimulation and over-extended on a continual basis.
This casts an overall shadow over being able to see solutions, possibilities and opportunities from different perspectives.
  3. Tapping can help a mom de-condition limiting beliefs, patterns and habits that keep her stuck in a perpetual Groundhog Day loop. Especially if you feel you’re a karmic or generational cycle-breaker, or cycle-mender as I like to call it, it’s important to ease out of hyper-focused or hyper-vigilant routines, as necessary and appropriate for her season of motherhood. Repetitive routine loops don’t leave a lot of room for reflection, contemplation and inspiration for different perspectives, higher vantage points and finding solutions and healing from the root source.

There are many other ways that EFT/Tapping can support a mother in any phase of motherhood. It’s a quick, easy and efficient tool to create intentional presence to slow down and rebuild the foundation of trust for a mother’s deep intuition, understanding and knowing.

Ultimately, Tapping meets a mother where she is, allows her to be genuinely seen and heard, and to release, heal, expand and embody her most exalted sense of self, while she’s taking care of her family and home.

Motherhood is one of the most polarizing, dynamic, intuitive and chaotic experiences, ever, hard stop.

Society has created a break-neck pace that keeps women, especially mothers, believing that there isn’t time to slow down, when slowing down is actually the thing that’s going to allow you to have the most fulfilling experience as a mother.

I see a lot of services and supports for mothers, but I still feel moms are falling through the cracks. There isn’t the necessary substantial support for the significance of motherhood, yet.

I do feel this will be restored, as long ago motherhood was a deeply revered and sacred experience, with highly regarded wisdom and communion being past from mother to child.

EFT/Tapping is one of the best modalities out there today that can actually facilitate holding the mother, while she’s holding her babies 🤍
